About the Author

Dr. Damon L. Simmons is a law enforcement executive, educator, and leadership practitioner with more than 26 years of experience in public safety and over 24 years of instructional leadership. He currently serves as Chief of Police for the Liberty Lake Police Department in Washington, where he oversees department operations. He worked previously at the Spokane County Sheriff's Office and the Great Falls Police Department.

Throughout his law enforcement career, Dr. Simmons has served in a wide range of operational and investigative roles, including patrol officer, field training officer, gang investigator, school resource officer, TAC team member, child sexual predator investigator, registered sex offender investigator, and member of both the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. He has also served as a patrol supervisor, detective, corporal, and sergeant, bringing a comprehensive understanding of policing from frontline operations to executive leadership.

In addition to his law enforcement career, Dr. Simmons is a state-certified law enforcement instructor and founder of LEO Firstline, LLC, where he provides professional development training focused on leadership, supervision, officer wellness, and organizational effectiveness. His instructional experience spans collegiate, professional, and agency-based environments, including serving as an adjunct professor in criminal justice.

Dr. Simmons holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Criminal Justice from Walden University, a Master of Science in Administration of Justice and Security from University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from University of Providence. His doctoral research focused on police stress and its impact on child sexual exploitation investigators.
